MUMBAI: Veteran Indian batsman Rahul Dravid on Thursday became the second player in the history of Test cricket to compile 13,000 runs besides completing 1,000 runs this calendar year.

Dravid, already the second highest run-scorer in the longer format of the game, drove West Indies skipper Darren Sammy for a boundary to reach to the milestone in the 29th over of the Indian innings in the third ongoing Test.

His teammate and batting icon Sachin Tendulkar was the first cricketer to achieve the 13,000-run feat and is currently the leading run-scorer in Test cricket with more than 15,000 runs under his belt.

Only eight batsmen have recorded more than 10,000 runs in Test cricket and three of them are Indians.

Playing in his 160th match, Dravid has smashed 36 centuries and 61 half-centuries so far.

For the 1,000 runs he scored this year, Dravid has taken 11 Tests. ‘The Wall’ has scored five centuries in the current year thus far with two against West Indies and three against England apart from two half-centuries at an average of 59.50.

KOLKATA: The state government is going to set up Rabindra Tirtha – a museum in memory of Rabindranath Tagore – on a five-acre plot at Rajarhat. It is likely be inaugurated on the bard’s birth anniversary next May, according to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Mamata on Saturday paid tribute to Tagore at the secretariat where Kavi Pranam, a cultural programme, was held as part of a year-long celebration to observe the 150th year of the poet’s birth. The state government has announced a holiday on Monday as August 8 is the death anniversary of the poet.

A day-long programme for Monday has been chalked out by the chief minister. It includes four rallies from four different points of the city, all terminating at Shahid Minar. A cultural programme will be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium in the evening. Mamata will also participate at the rally from Harish Park.

HIDCO’s chairman Debashis Sen has been asked to look into this project so that it can be completed by next May. The centre will serve as a major tourist attraction. There will be an auditorium. People can also submit their own personal collections of Tagore to the centre. Officials are also planning to organize a light-and-sound show in the museum. Moreover, the CM declared that the stadium at Kasba, which will be inaugurated on Tuesday, will be named Gitanjali stadium.

Poet Joy Goswami held a meeting with Mamata and discussed organizing a Nazrul memorial lecture in the city on August 28. Bangladeshi poet Samsul Haque will be the key speaker at the programme. The state government is going to set up a Nazrul Academy soon, said Goswami.

नई दिल्ली। आखिरकार अन्ना हजारे ने साफ कर दिया है कि वो बाबा रामदेव को 16 अगस्त से शुरू होने वाले अपने अनशन में शामिल नहीं करेंगे। अन्ना ने बाबा रामदेव के खिलाफ सीधे-सीधे कुछ कहने से इनकार करते हुए कहा कि आप मेरे मुंह से क्यों सुनना चाहते हैं। भला बाबा रामदेव के बारे में मीडिया से ज्यादा कौन जान सकता है।

गौरतलब है कि जंतर-मंतर पर जब अन्ना हजारे ने अनशन किया था तो उसमें बाबा रामदेव भी पहुंचे थे। बाबा रामदेव को न सिर्फ मंच पर बुलाया गया बल्कि उन्होंने वहां मौजूद लोगों को संबोधित भी किया। इसके बाद बाबा रामदेव को लेकर आई खबरों ने सिविल सोसायटी को उनसे दूर कर दिया। चार जून को दिल्ली के रामलीला मैदान पर हुए रामदेव के अनशन को अन्ना की टीम ने समर्थन तो दिया लेकिन सीधे-सीधे उसमें शामिल होने से टीम बचती रही।
अब जब लोकपाल बिल को लेकर अन्ना ने 16 अगस्त से अनशन करने की घोषणा कर दी है तो उनसे बार-बार ये सवाल पूछा जा रहा था कि क्या वे बाबा रामदेव को अपने आंदोलन में शामिल करेंगे? ये सवाल इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण था क्योंकि खुद रामदेव ने अन्ना के आंदोलन में शामिल होने का ऐलान अपनी तरफ से किया हुआ है।

इस सवाल को अन्ना और उनकी टीम टाल रही थी लेकिन अब अन्ना हजारे ने साफ कर दिया है कि भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ लड़ाई में रामदेव सहयोगी तो हैं, लेकिन वो रामदेव को मंच पर आमंत्रित नहीं करेंगे। अन्ना ने साफ कहा कि रामदेव बाबा के बारे में मीडिया से ज्यादा और कौन जान सकता है। पत्रकारों द्वारा कुरेदने पर अन्ना ने कहा कि अब आप इस बात को मेरे मुंह से क्यों सुनना चाहते हैं।
