BALLIA City, DADRI MELA AREA

Ballia (Bhojpuri: बलिया, Hindi: बलिया) is a city with a municipal board in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The eastern boundary of the city lies at the junction of the Ganges and the Ghaghara. The city is situated 76 KM from Ghazipur and 150 KM from Varanasi.

Bhojpuri, a dialect of Hindi, is the primary local language.

Ballia is also known as Baghi Ballia (Rebel Ballia) for its significant contribution in India’s freedom struggle. During the first Independence War of India in 1857, Ballia came in picture in front of the world and Shree Mangal Pandey was that first freedom fighter of that war who was born in village Nagwa Ballia district of India.[1] During the Quit India Movement of 1942 Ballia gained independence from British rule for a short period of time when the district overthrew the government and installed an independent administration under Chittu Pandey.

DADRI MELA:

The second largest cattle fair of India is held on the full moon of Kartik (October–November). A fair is held on kuwar(September–October)near suraimanpur station with name dhanush yagya

The second largest cattle fair of India is held in Winter Season in the heart of town, starts on Kartik Poornima with Holy dip in Ganges. This fair brings some excellent hybrids of cattle from across India.
History of DADRI MELA

The Dadri fair is held here annually in the honour of the famous Dadar Muni, the disciple of Rishi Bhrigu. It is believed that he brought the River Saryu up to Ballia on the order of his Guru. The cultural activities, shopping at Meena Bazaar and a collection of excellent hybrids of cattle brought from different parts of India, draws attention of tourists from all across the country.

Dadri fair is one of the second largest fairs of India. The fair site is located at a distance of about 3 km from bus stand of Ballia city. The fair is held here annually starting from Kartik Purnima (October-November) in the honour of Dadar Muni, the disciple of Rishi Bhrigu. It is believed that he brought the River Saryu up to Ballia on the order of his Guru. This event is celebrated over a period of one month with lots of celebrations. The fair is organized in two phases. During the first phase a cattle fair is organized at Nandigram which starts 10 days before the Kartik Purnima. And later on the day of Kartik Purnima, Meena Bazaar having shops of different items, with many amusement facilities & various cultural programs are organized which last for one month.
